Quick Non-Review: Elinchrom Deep-Octa 27.5" (With sample photos)

I finally went out and picked up an Elinchrom Deep-Octa 27.5" (B&H Photo Link). Right off the bat let us establish that it does beautiful things to light. Use a deflector and youve got something special. Sharpens up the shadows/Gives great coverage/Wonderful highlights and picks up details like a champ. It does these things without ever being too harsh.

I'm not a gear reviewer so I dont have dozens of sample photos with a bust to show every nuance. What I do have are some sample photos from a shoot I just wrapped up as well as a photo of myself at 1AM (no one was available on such short notice if you can image). All the strobes were Elinchrom RX600s. I tried the softbox with diffuser(s) and the deflector and found that I sided with just the deflector which turned the Deep Octa into a small, but appropriate portrait sized, parabolic reflector. As someone who still shoots a lot of film I'm very excited to get the rolls I have shot with this modifier back. I am expecting good things for sure.

This image (above) was shot with just the Elinchrom Deep-Octa then converted to B&W in Lightroom. The images below were shot using a 2nd 3x4 Rotolux Softbox for some slight fill.

Jessica with the Elinchrom Deep Octa 27.5'Hope you enjoyed taking a look and if you're shooting portraits I thing you'd be hard pressed to find a more versitle light modifier especially when you factor in the cost which seems to hover around $250.
